I’m in a show called “Brutal Doodle” at Lufthansa Studios in Boston (opens July 1st.)  The show’s curators say “Doodling is distinct from sketching or preliminary drawings in that it taps into something humbler and more personal. Springing forward from a subconscious moment in time, the doodle occupies a place outside of intentionality, at times succumbing to “failure” or incompleteness. This means that doodles often get relegated to unseen places, never to be shown, yet it is in this very uncertain place that the value and energy of the doodle resides.”

I flipped through some random piles of paper on my desk to find some stuff I’d been doodling when talking on the phone, and then just expanded it across a bigger piece of paper.  I always doodle boards and planks.  And I’ve been working on some furniture lately in a shop with great tools, so i’ve recently been covered in sawdust, splinters, and scraps of wood were definitely on my mind.
