Sally Cruikshank’s “Quasi At The Quackadero”
Cruikshank was an animator for Sesame Street in the 70s, but her bizarre cartoon from 1975 is in its own class as a trippy, queasy, and visually inventive narrative. It follows two ducks and a pet robot at an amusement park in the future where time travel is exploited. You have to click over to YouTube to watch it.

New Record!
We recently got a receiver and speakers here at Slowmobile HQ. 200 watts of sound for only $40 at the thrift store. Hooked up the old record player after way too long in storage.
One of the first new records I bought was Sonny And The Sunsets’ “Hit After Hit” - and been playing it nonstop. It’s a bit reminiscent of old Jonathan Richman, Buddy Holly, The Ventures, all kind of fuzzy and crackling, warm and jangly. The songs are short and simple. Its a great summer record; wish I’d gotten it earlier when it was so hot.
You might be familiar with Sonny from his multi-media art exhibition 100 Records, for which Sonny wrote 100 songs and their B-Sides while in residency at Marin Headlands. He then recorded all tracks and built a custom jukebox to play them all on demand, which was exhibited along with a 7” record cover for each single, designed by different visual artists. The whole thing toured (and is still touring the world I believe.) I was lucky to have been invited to design one of the record covers, and we showed the whole thing at Okay Mountain gallery in Austin, Texas.
